The Cardinal Hill Swim Team is a member of the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL), which was founded in 1956 to sponsor competitive swimming and diving among community pools. The NVSL is the largest summer league in the United States with over 10,000 children participating. The NVSL comprises 102 teams divided into 17 divisions.
The Cardinal Hill Swim Team provides all team members, regardless of ability or previous experience, the opportunity to develop swimming skills and a strong sense of personal achievement. Summer swimming provides a unique opportunity for children, covering a wide range of ages, to participate as team members and contribute to the team’s overall success. Swimmers will learn good sportsmanship, make new friends, and most of all – HAVE FUN!
Team members will participate in many activities including swim meets, relay carnivals, and social events such as pep rallies, movies, outings, pasta dinners, and much more.
Please refer to the CARDINAL HILL SWIM TEAM website for information about eligibility, registration, practices, meets, and all other swim team-related topics.
The Cardinal Hill Dive Team is a member of the Northern Virginia Swim League-Diving (NVSL-D), which is comprised of eight divisions and approximately 48 pools.
As of summer 2014, the Cardinal Hill Dive Team is in Division II. We need new divers as well as all of last year’s divers to meet the challenge of Division II this year.
The purpose of the Dive Team is to promote the sport of diving and for all participants to have fun.
The Dive Team welcomes all levels of divers from the beginner to the expert. The program is structured to serve the needs of all team members. No experience is required; all interested divers are wanted and welcome to come to come try the dive team during the first week of practices without registering.
The coaches may recommend lessons to some divers. Only the divers that can do all of the required dives for their age group will participate in the Tuesday night meets. For children under 10, the required dives are a front dive, a back dive, and an optional dive such as a forward somersault or an inward dive. Those children who do not have the required dives will be able to participate in the Crackerjack meet and at least one B meet.
All dependents of Cardinal Hill Swim and Racquet Club members or lessees, 18 and under and who and who are no further removed from high school than spring graduation are invited to join the dive team. Diving is divided into age groups for both boys and girls. Age as of June 1st is the deciding factor for each group. The age groups and number of dives required at meets are:
- Freshman – 10 and under: 3 dives – (forward dive, backward dive, and one optional dive)
- Juniors – 11 and 12: 4 dives – (forward dive, backward dive, and two optional dives)
- Intermediate – 13 and 14: 5 dives – (forward dive, backward dive, and three optional dives)
- Seniors – 15 to 18: 6 dives – (forward dive, backward dive, inward dive, and three optional dives)
- In each dive meet, the top three scores in each age group count as official scores and count toward the final meet standings. Up to 32 total divers may dive in any meet.
